The Passing
The passing of a spouse is not just the death of the spouse, but also the death of the life you created together. Genesis 2:24 says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” And again in Mark 10:6-8, “But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.” The two God brought together become one creature entwined with God in a three strand chord call marriage. Two weeks ago (June 23, 2021) my world was devastated and my life shattered. Everything I knew, everything I was, all my dreams, desires, and hopes just ended. I watched for several days as life slowly drained from someone who was so full of life just days before. I watched as a healing process quickly and drastically turned into a death spiral. I watched as eyes once so full of life and energy slowly dimmed into darkness. I felt the warmth drain from her hands as I held them. And I was there in those final moments as she left and my heart was violently torn from my chest. Just like that, half of my life and all I was, ceased.
